Taisho x Alice: game review

Hey! I’ve just finished playing Taisho x Alice and it’s already in my top five favorite otome games! Hooray!!

So, what makes this game so great? Let’s find out! :)

FIRST IMPRESSIONS

I started playing it a few months ago, shortly after the game came out on Switch. I loved the opening song! And I thought it was brilliant that the LIs were the male version of fairytale heroines! I couldn’t stop laughing looking at Little Red Riding Hood!! So of course he was my first route. I was very happy to be able to choose him right at the beginning of the game!

RED RIDING HOOD’S ROUTE

Okay, so the heroine is being chased by the big bad wolf and Little Red Riding Hood is my bodyguard. Yay!

So I thought: wtf, this game is making fun of me. And it turned out that the game was doing just that. It took me a few minutes to understand that this game was a total joke! I mean, it is, but the game is also brilliant in many different ways!

This game is like a parody of otome games, fairy tales, romance and tropes. But surprisingly it also tackles dark themes and goes very deep into the psychological part of the characters, which are very complex.

I played this route blind and guess what, I got a bad ending (you don’t say!!). So I switched to the Cinderella route and… got another bad ending, fuck. So I got pissed off and I didn’t play the game for a while. I’m a bad loser!!

A while later, I used a walkthrough to complete this route and get the good ending. And I loved it!!

Red Riding Hood is an adorable LI! He’s serious, so I thought uhhh kuudere? But no, he’s also shy, he screams a lot, his nose bleeds, he is scandalous and curses. He’s more of a tsundere.

Screams, scandals and swearing is a trademark of Taisho x Alice. Before I thought it was a “serious game”, but fuck no, and I love it’s not!! I mean, it has many serious moments and I love those as well!

CINDERELLA’S ROUTE

Here’s a mature, stylish guy with a foot fetish! ;)

Sorry, I swear I don’t remember much of his route. I remember more of him appearing on other routes. I played his route a few months ago, I remember some memorable scenes, but I ended up forgetting some parts. ;-;

Each route has elements of its original character’s fairy tale. This is so cool!

GRETEL’S ROUTE

I didn’t even care about Gretel at the beginning of the game, but he ended up becoming my favorite character!

Yandere characters have a special appeal. And that cliché of the cage. A good number of otome games have used the cage thing. I NEED MORE CAGES IN MY LIFE!!!

Gretel screams, and how he screams! I love everything about him, he’s the best boy! =^_^=

KAGUYA’S ROUTE

This route took me completely by surprise. He and the heroine get together really fast!! In a very funny way!

The route is calm, sweet and romantic at first. I loved Kaguya’s easygoing personality. Until things start to get very dark.

This route is beautiful! Kaguya is an amazing LI! One of my favorites that will stay in my heart.

I got his bad ending by accident. I only got his good ending a few days ago, when I started playing again.

SNOW WHITE’S ROUTE

I thought Snow White was sweet and delicate. But huh…. he’s not! He’s kind of surprising in many ways.

He just ruins all the romantic scenes in a genius way. He also has a dark past.

I like how the MC just falls in love with the LIs without any shame.

WIZARD’S ROUTE

WIZARD!!! *O*

Omg, I love Wizard so much!! He was my favourite before Gretel took his place. Now Wizard is my second favourite. But still hot!!!

I LOVE Wizard in all the routes!! And I love his route as well. It’s too perfect.

He is a confident and mysterious guy. Yet he is in an abusive relationship!!

I love his cool hat. I lovelovelove I’m in loooove! :3

ALICE’S ROUTE

Alice won’t shut up and won’t stop talking nonsense and I love all of his nonsense!!

Alice can’t stop screaming and making a scene. But he also has a cute and shy side! I couldn’t believe it!

Alice is my sweet boy.

FINAL THOUGHTS

The game has a nice story, but I care more about the LIs hahaha! The whole fairytale-based thing makes the game original enough for me.

Characters sometimes talk too much, which is a problem with otome games in general, but some don’t think it’s a problem. I’m personally more interested in the jokes, steamy scenes and dark scenes that the game has to offer.

Maybe some people didn’t understand that this game is a joke so they complain lol. I think the slang English translation perfectly matches the game’s dirty jokes.

Although the game doesn’t focus on sex scenes, it does have a lot of dirty jokes and spicy scenes. What it doesn’t show in naked bodies, he makes up with genius CGs and plenty of teasing conversations.

Some people don’t like otoges with dark scenes. I love it! So, yes, Taisho x Alice has it all. It has allusions to suicide, cutting, corpses, murders.

For me, Taisho x Alice is a masterpiece and a living legend in the world of otome games, an absolute classic.

I haven’t got all the bad endings of all the characters yet, but I want to do that one day. And I also want to play the FD.
